Cutting-edge research and innovation was on show at ºìÌÒÊÓƵ's Summer Science Exhibition, 30 June – 5 July 2026. This free event, suitable for all ages, showcased the latest research from across the UK, through hands-on activities, talks and interactive exhibits. Download the full programme (PDF).

This year, scientists revealed the mysteries of lightning and why lightning behaves the way it does. Visitors explored the future of human-like robotic problem solvers with Frank the Robot and ventured into the Microbe Zoo to travel through soil, waterways and the human gut to learn all about microbes and how they keep us healthy. We learned how cutting-edge telescopes and supercomputers are helping researchers to answer the biggest cosmic questions and reveal the deepest secrets of the Universe.

With 13 flagship exhibits, a Young Researcher Zone featuring school and college students with an enthusiasm for science, and an exciting additional programme of talks, panel discussions, film screenings, performances and interactive activities, there was something for everyone at the Summer Science Exhibition 2026.
